I went with Gandi for a while about a year ago. The admin panel was pretty convenient, and provisioning was fast. I was worried about their many features they were adding that had no value for me, though; lots of pre-configured pieces for newbies to use. I don't want to pay for that if I don't use it.

Otherwise, things were pretty good, with one major problem: the system comes set up so that you can't log in as root. This means that if you want to write scripts to automatically provision servers, you still have to put in an extra layer to access the user account and enable root login. Really annoying, and required extra work to modify the scripts that I use for all my other VPSs.

Hi guys, we've actually updated the hosting infrastructure to substantially improve the disk IO and the CPU available per share, so have another look if you fancy it. You can also get a test drive if you submit a request which can be a quick way of evaluating performance. Have a look at our gandibar.net blog for full details. Thanks, Joe

I must say I am not so happy with gandi myself. Their system look slick and all, but the performance is very weak. 1 share seems really, really slow, compared to other providers. 1 share gets you about 52 bogomips, which is much slower than a celeron would be. So you pretty much pay a lot for that!

We are pleased to announce the grand opening of Gandi's web hosting offer! Having successfully completed out beta testing phase over the past 9 months (note: the outages mentioned occurred while we were beta testing) , we are now fully operational and have added some improvements to the system, including a revamped Gandi AI interface, and architecture. For more security we have also changed to RAID 60 disks.

The service that we provide is without any obligation in terms of time: you can order a server for as little as *one day*, and if you use out GandiFlex service, you can even change the power of your server in periods as short as *one hour*, without ever needing to reboot or transfer files. You only pay for the time you use our service, and can quit at any time and get refunded for the time you did not use it.

For more information on Gandi's flexible solution to VPS hosting, please visit our website at www.gandi.net/hosting, or come and visit with us on our blog at www.gandibar.net.

See you soon!

As of 28.08.2008, this plan is still NOT AVAILABLE FOR ALL CUSTOMERS... I've tried for 5 months, all I can get is a message: "Gandi Hosting is now on beta testing by invitation" Gandi is great for domains and DNS, but still lacks a working hosting plan.

I've had a gandi share for about 4 months now, they provide a lot of 'bang for your buck' compared to the other providers and are also very flexible in terms of providing additional CPU / RAM / Disk as and when you need it (use it for an hour and they will only charge you for that hour). On the negative side, their support is very slow to answer email inquiries and not a great deal of help sometimes either. I've experienced two major outages in the time I've had their hosting.

Overall, if you're looking for good value for money and your needs aren't mission critical, I would recommend them.
